Formed in 1976, the American Society of Home Inspectors, Inc. (ASHI) is the oldest and most respected professional association for independent home inspectors in North America. Certified Inspectors of ASHI have met the most rigorous technical and experience requirements in effect today. Certified Inspectors have performed at least 250 professional fee-paid home inspections and must obtain continuing education credits in order to keep current with the latest building technology, materials and professional skills. Associates are home inspectors vying to meet the requirements of full membership. Since they may be new to the profession, associates have not cultivated existing supplier relationships, making them attractive to a wide array of mailers. Buyers/prospects have requested and received information (paid and non-paid) about the home inspection profession from ASHI.
By the nature of their profession, ASHI inspectors must possess a broad knowledge of the physical structure and systems of a home and a commercial building. This knowledge would include: central heating and air conditioning systems, interior plumbing, electrical systems, the roof, attic, insulation and ventilation, walls, ceilings, floors, windows and doors, the foundation, basement and other visible structures. Membership benefits include a subscription to the monthly publication, The ASHI Reporter, on-line forums, referral listings, affinity services, discount registration to the largest, most respected annual conference in the profession - InspectionWorld, educational opportunities and technical support.
